Wellness Program at Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital Offers 24/7 Premium Gym Membership Opportunity for the Community

Getting regular exercise is one of the most important things you can do for your overall health. There are numerous benefits to being physically active, such as boosting mental health, improving circulation, managing weight, strengthening bones and muscles, and reducing stress, and the reduced risk for certain diseases and conditions.

For many people; however, a key challenge with exercising is finding the time and an exercise facility that works for them. Exercise equipment can be intimidating, especially if you’ve never used it before. That’s why Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital’s Therapy & Wellness Center is pleased to offer the community access to its Independent Wellness Program, which is a self-guided exercise solution.

The Independent Wellness Program offers members 24/7 access to the Therapy & Wellness Center and use of the various exercise machines, equipment, and free weights. Members are also provided with an orientation session to become better familiarized with the equipment and how things work. If a program member ever has a question or concern about an exercise or piece of equipment, staff is available during regular Therapy business hours to help.

Sullivan, Mo. resident, Dave Higgason, 63, joined the Independent Wellness Program at the Therapy & Wellness Center in June 2023. He appreciates the many benefits the program has to offer.

“The gym equipment is newer, clean, and well maintained,” said Higgason. “Plus, I can work out whenever it’s convenient for my schedule.”.

Higgason has worked out in a gym setting for years; however, when COVID hit four years ago, he stopped going to the gym. So, when Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital announced construction plans for the new Therapy & Wellness Center, including the launch of its Independent Wellness Program, he was excited to have a new gym option.

“I work at the hospital and can just walk over to the Center after I get off work, which is a bonus,” said Higgason. “I really enjoy how friendly the staff members are. I also like that it’s not too crowded, so I don’t have to wait around to use the equipment like the treadmill, cross trainer, and free weights.”

The only requirement to join the Independent Wellness Program is an order from your primary care provider indicating you’re medically cleared to exercise. Membership cost is $40.20 per month, which is not billable to insurance.

“It’s worth the money, because it really is the best gym facility in town,” said Higgason.

For more information about the Independent Wellness Program, call (573) 468-1340 or visit the Therapy & Wellness Center on the Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital campus at 975 Mattox Dr., Sullivan.
