MBSH Graduates its first Operational Excellence Cohort Class

Lean process improvement in hospitals involves implementing processes that add value from a patient perspective and eliminating or improving those that don’t. It also involves aligning leaders and staff around a shared vision, promoting a culture of continuous improvement, empowering frontline staff to drive improvement efforts and finding the root cause of pain points and inefficiencies.

This Operational Excellence cohort is part of a BJC-wide plan to develop our 44,000 caregivers to embrace an improvement mind set, using standard methods, systems and tools as part of daily work.

The 12-week program is designed to lead a team through a problem-solving project using A3 Problem Solving. A3 is a systematic approach to identifying, analyzing and solving complex business problems.

The following MBSH team members worked on OE projects pertaining to the MSAP goals on their unit. Congratulations to:

  • Kandis Schmelz
  • Vanessa Alfermann
  • Elizabeth Hellmann
  • Robin Butts
  • Dustin Duncan
  • Cherie Monzyk
  • Kassidy Wymer
  • Om Sam, MD

Future cohort classes are being planned in the future.
