Unexpectedly Finding Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital ’s Mother Baby Services Meant One Local Mom Could Get her Prenatal and Childbirth Care Much Closer to Home

When Jill Taylor, 33, of Sullivan, Mo., discovered she was pregnant with her third baby in late 2022, she began her search for a new Ob/Gyn. She and her family had relocated to the area in 2021 from West Virginia, which is where she gave birth to her first two babies.

“Growing up nearby, everyone I knew delivered their babies in Washington, Mo., so I figured that’s where I’d have to go, too,” said Taylor.

However, driving to her prenatal appointments in Washington, Mo., took Taylor 45 minutes (and an hour-and-a-half roundtrip) which was rather inconvenient with having two other kids to care for at home. She mentioned her frustration to a friend, who suggested looking into the Mother Baby Unit at Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital for her prenatal and labor and delivery needs. Not to mention, Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital is only 10 minutes from Taylor’ home.

“I knew about Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital, but I had no idea the hospital offered childbirth care,” said Taylor. “Plus, my friend said she had a great experience giving birth there, so that was all I needed to hear to make the change.”

Taylor did some research online and after reading so many positive reviews, she decided to switch her prenatal care to Roger Rembecki, an Ob/gyn at Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital. She had her first appointment with him as she was beginning her second trimester.

Dr. Rembecki is part of a team of prenatal and childbirth care providers at Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital. He sees patients at the Sullivan Medical Office, offering personalized, compassionate care for expectant moms, understanding their needs and concerns, and collaborating to create birth plans that support their labor and delivery wishes. Well-respected in his field, Dr. Rembecki was recently recognized as a ‘Top Doctor for 2023’ by St. Louis Magazine.

“Given that this was my third pregnancy, I already knew a lot,” said Taylor. “Yet, Dr. Rembecki still made me feel comfortable and took his time during my appointments, allowing me to ask questions. He often remembered the little things, like my kids and different events in my life, which made it much more personal.”

Dr. Rembecki appreciated Taylor’s experience and perspective as a third-time mom. “Jill was always conscientious about her pregnancy and attentive during her prenatal appointments. It was such a privilege for her to choose to receive her care at Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital. My staff enjoyed caring for her as well, given how friendly and engaging she is with them.”

After a relatively smooth and uneventful pregnancy, Taylor arrived at Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital on Thursday, June 8, 2023, to undergo a repeat, scheduled C-section under the care of Dr. Rembecki. She gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Hannah, and recovered in the Mother Baby Unit before being discharged home two days later.

“I had a wonderful delivery experience at Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital,” said Taylor. “All the nurses were so pleasant and made me feel important. Whenever I would call, they were there within minutes. They were so helpful and supportive.”

Taylor appreciated other aspects of the Mother Baby Unit, including the in-room mother-baby care. “I loved that Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital has the nursery in the mom’s room. Being able to be together was important to me. My husband even got to carry her back to our room after my C-section, which was special. We were able to keep her with us throughout our stay to allow for more bonding. It’s something I didn’t have with my previous deliveries, so I really appreciated that.”
