Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital Receives a Healthcare Leadership Award for its ‘Outstanding Culture’

Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital (MBSH) was recently honored with a Healthcare Leadership Award in the ‘Outstanding Culture’ category by PRC (Professional Research Consultants) during the PRC Healthcare Experience Summit on September 28, 2022.

According to PRC, MBSH was recognized with the ‘Outstanding Culture’ Award, because the hospital has established and sustained best practices for creating a compassionate culture and meaningful communication practices among all team members. The hospital has achieved some of its highest patient satisfaction scores over the past year and achieved a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in 2022.

PRC, a leader in the health care intelligence space, received more than 100 nominations across multiple categories for the Healthcare Leadership Awards. Award recipients submitted case studies during the second and third quarters of 2022 to be eligible. The Healthcare Leadership Awards recognize health care professionals and PRC partner organizations who exemplify PRC’s core values and dedication to health care excellence, with award categories spanning the entirety of PRC’s service lines.

In addition to MBSH, PRC honored five other BJC HealthCare leaders, hospitals, and/or departments with Healthcare Leadership Awards, including

  • Impact — Gina Calder, Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital and Progress West Hospital president, was recognized for achieving immediate positive impact in the areas of PRC’s core values of Collaboration, Service and Innovation. She has established a culture of excellence and sets high standards for staff while also providing comfort, healing and security for patients and the community.
  • Healthcare Experience: Leadership — Jennifer Carron, BJC Patient Experience officer, was honored for taking on the challenge of fully integrating PRC EasyView® into the organizational culture and reporting system, and for serving as a mentor and subject matter expert on communication, patient engagement and experience.
  • Patient Experience: Department Level — Missouri Baptist Medical Center's neurology department is a top performer within PRC’s national hospital client base and within BJC HealthCare. The department has achieved and maintained an overall quality rank above the 90th percentile for three years. MBMC’s neurology team provides excellent patient and family experience and attributes its success to purposeful design, high standards, a multi-disciplinary team-based care approach and a strong culture.
  • Patient Safety — Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital led significant measured improvements in the overall health of its diabetic patients centered around hyperglycemia. This year saw a decrease of more than 20% in average hyperglycemic events from the previous year.
  • Physician Partnership — Douglas Pogue, MD, BJC Medical Group president, made a focused effort in supporting providers with the tools and resources they need to provide consistent, high-quality care rooted in a strong patient experience.

Congratulations to all the honorees!

For Daniel Jones, 62, of Cuba, Mo., working as a drywall taper was something he enjoyed for many years. It was a physically demanding job with hauling heavy supplies, balancing on stilts, and working long hours. He never thought a seemingly minor injury would force him to not only retire earlier than expected but it almost cost him his foot.
