2023 Marks the 17th Year of Jennings Family Providing Toys for Children at Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital

For 17 years, the Jennings family has been providing toys to children who are in the hospital over the holidays at Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital. Each December, the family delivers the toys in hopes a gift will help relieve some of the stress and anxiety children often experience when in the hospital - as a patient or while visiting a family member.

The annual donation is in loving memory of Robert Jennings, who lost his life in a tragic accident at nine years old, when he was struck by a vehicle in 2006. Robert spent several days hospitalized until succumbing to his injuries. It was an extremely difficult time for the Jennings family and through their experience, they hope to help other children find some comfort in a new toy during what can be a scary situation.

The Jennings family also encourages all who are eligible to consider registering as an organ donor. Two children and two adults were recipients of the gift of life through the tragedy of Robert’s death.

The Jennings family hosts fundraisers through the year to enable them to purchase the toys and they greatly appreciate the support of those who donate to their efforts.

“This is a wonderful tribute to Robert,” said Carmen Bartolotta, chief nursing officer and chief operating officer at Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital. “Countless children have had a more pleasant experience at the hospital because of the Jennings family. We sincerely appreciate their concern for the wellbeing of children in our hospital and their continued support through this program.”.
